Hamilton presents this very unique overnight
Haunted Bus Trip to Mansfield Reformatory! As seen in the movie 'The Shawshank Redemption'
NOTE: You MUST have your PASSPORT to join us on this
trip! If
you haven't got one yet, visit the Passport
Office in Downtown Hamilton in person
(in person is much faster than by mail - we received ours
in less than two weeks!
You should receive your Passport just in time for the
trip.
Applying through the mail takes about 4 weeks to receive).
Mansfield
Reformatory Preservation Society (MRPS) sponsored Ghost
Hunts® are serious, but informal attempts to document
paranormal activity at a castle-like former prison.
Ghost Hunts® provide an unusual first-hand experience
to search other realms.
Ghost Hunts® at OSR are the first of their kind in
the United States.
Our
ghostly journey will lead us to the Ohio State Reformatory,
which was built between 1886 and 1910. It houses
the world's largest free-standing cell block which is
six tiers high! The Reformatory remained in full
operation until 1972, but wasn't completely closed down
until 1990.
Mansfield
Reformatory is one of, if not THE most haunted locations
in the United States. It is reportedly haunted
with several paranormal hotspots including the two chapels,
the area around the warden's office, the infirmary and
solitary confinement. Over 200 people died at the Ohio
State Reformatory, including a few guards who were killed
during escape attempts.
The
facility gained fame when it served as Shawshank State
Prison in the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption starring
Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. It has also been featured
in other popular movies including, "Air Force Once",
"Tango and Cash" and many others. It has also
been featured on tv shows including, "Scariest Places
on Earth", SciFi Channel's "Ghost Hunters"
with TAPS and other shows on A&E and The Travel Channel.
NOTE: This bus trip is not recommended
for pregnant women,
due to the lead-based paints still present at the old
jail.
Unfortunately,
anyone under 21 is not allowed to attend this trip
due to the rules and regulations set in place by the
Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society
We
will depart Hamilton via a fully chartered, luxury bus
with an on-board washroom. We will make several
pit-stops along the way until we arrive in Amish Country,
Ohio where we will stop at one of Stephanie & HH Mum Cathy's
favourite places for a homestyle Amish Buffet! (which
is included in the trip cost too!)
After
dinner, you have some free time to do some shopping at
the various Country Shops and Market's around Amish Country!
Make sure you bring some extra cash... there are cute
little gift shops and bakeries!
After
our dinner/shopping break in Amish Country, we'll continue
to wind through the country roads as the dead of night
approaches. We'll arrive at Mansfield Reformatory just
in time for a personalized tour of the jail before we're
"let loose" into the depths of the creepy, dark,
and oh, did we mention EXTREMELY HAUNTED building!!
Passport
Needed!! Please
ensure you pack this to avoid delays and problems
at the U.S. border.

Clothing (since we will be on the bus quite a bit!)

& Pillow (to use for sleeping on the bus)
Good,
comfy shoes! You'll be on your feet all night walking through
the dark corridors and up winding steel staircases...
heels are definitely NOT recommended!! The building
contains hazards including, but not limited to,
narrow corridors, steep stairs, and uneven surfaces.
Carry-on bag/back-pack: is allowed on the bus and can be placed in the overhead compartments.
Sweaters,
Jackets, etc
(to keep yourself warm outdoors and inside the building)
Extra
Spending Money in U.S. Currency (for
your breakfast and pit-stops, and for any
extra snacks you might buy on the trip!)
Camera (you won't want to forget this experience, and
who knows, maybe you'll capture something on film!)
